Michael 'Mike' Zimmerman

Michael "Mike" Zimmerman, 63, of Potomac, passed away at 2:12 p.m. Monday August 27th, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Mike was born on August 16th, 1949, in Danville, the son of Floyd A. and Minnie V. (Brown) Zimmerman. He was previously to married Debra Kelshimer on March 4th, 1973. He later married Lisa Wernigk on December 4th, 1982, in Potomac. They were divorced in 2002. He is survived by three sons- Eric Zimmerman of California, Jeffrey Zimmerman of Indianapolis, Indiana and Gene (Mary) Zimmerman of Rossville; two daughters- Michelle (Cody Huckstep) Zimmerman of Gifford and Erin (Steven) Durbin of Rantoul; seven grandchildren- Jason Zimmerman, Preston Huckstep, Victoria Durbin, Marishka Zimmerman, Jillian Zimmerman, Zoe Durbin and another one on the way; sister- Mildred Hopkins of Danville; and a brother- Robert (Linda) Holt of Georgetown. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter- Laura E. Zimmerman, sister- Mary Ruth Hopkins and two brothers- Robert Hopkins and David Hopkins. Mike served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1973. He worked at Bohn Aluminum in Danville for 16 years. He was a member of the Potomac Church of Christ. He enjoyed riding his bike from Potomac to Danville, collecting other people's treasures, collecting coins and playing music, especially his guitar and piano. Mike was a very generous man and enjoyed helping other people when they needed help. Graveside services for Michael "Mike" Zimmerman will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 31st, 2012 at Danville National Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #210.
