Michael 'Mike' Wayne Powers

Tilton - Michael "Mike" Wayne Powers, 67, of Tilton, passed away at 2:59 PM on Monday, November 28, 2016 at his home in Tilton. Michael was born on September 19, 1949 in Danville, IL the son of H. Wayne and Anna L. (Holycross) Powers. He married LuAnn Spencer on April 19, 1975 in Tilton, IL. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, LuAnn, of Tilton, his son, Shawn (Erin) Powers of Washington, IL, and his two grandsons, Nathan and Logan Powers of Washington, IL. Michael was preceded in death by his parents. Michael retired after 31 years of service with Illinois Power/Ameren as an Electrical Engineer and Locator. He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking and was very fond of his cats. "Mike" had a passion for baseball and hockey, especially the St Louis Cardinals and Chicago Blackhawks. As a youth, thru his time at Danville Jr. College, "Mike" was a Catcher for a variety of baseball teams over the years. As for hockey, he and his wife housed many players over the years for the Danville Wings hockey teams. "Mike" was also known for his abilities as a chef. Most notably were his chili and his mac and cheese, and even cooked at Hawthorn Inn for a short while. "Mike" was a member of the Olive Branch Masonic Lodge #38 in Danville as well as the Scottish Rite. He also was a multiple Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Iris Chapter # 307. Masonic Rites will be conducted by Olive Branch Masonic Lodge #38 on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 7:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Order of the Eastern Star Rites by Iris Chapter #307 will follow immediately. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Entombment will be held privately in Sunset Memorial Park on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 N. Vermilion Street Danville, IL is assisting the family with arrangements.
