Michael “Mick” Courson, 83, of Danville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026. He was born October 4, 1942, in Danville, Illinois, the son of Walter and Josephine (Berg) Courson.
Mick married the love of his life, Carol Korso, on January 26, 1962, in Champaign, Illinois. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2025. Their enduring love and devotion were a beautiful example to all who knew them.
He is survived by his daughter, Cathy (Gary) Sackett of Brooklet, Georgia; his son, Jerry (Katherine “Kathy”) Courson of Bismarck, Illinois; grandchildren Alexis (Travis) Denius and Michael “Mike” (Taylor) Courson; and great-grandchildren Maverick Sackett, Remington “Remi” Denius, Colton “CJ” (“Bubba”) Denius, Thomas “Tommy” Courson, and Jacob Courson. He is also survived by three siblings: David (Sandy) Courson of Danville, Illinois; Kathy DeWeese of Rossford, Ohio; and Larry (Joan) Courson of Dexter, Michigan; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Carol; his grandson, Tharon Sackett; and his brother, Benny Courson.
Mick retired from Hyster after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a faithful and active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Danville, where he served in many roles over the years. He also gave generously of his time as a board member of the Vermilion County Conservation District and as a volunteer with Vermilion County C.A.S.A. His lifelong love of hunting and fishing reflected his deep respect for the outdoors and fueled his passion for conservation.
Above all, Mick’s greatest joy was his family and friends. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous spirit, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, Illinois 61834. Pastor Ed Stone will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1:00–3:00 PM Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mick’s memory to the Vermilion County Conservation District.
