Michael Martin

Michael Lynn Martin, 43, of Westville, passed away at 12:56am, Sunday, August 10, 2008, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. He was born June 10, 1965 in Vincennes, IN, the son of D. Gordon and Linda C. (Fenton) Martin. Survivors include his father D. Gordon Martin, three daughters, Heather Piehl , Angel Martin, and Sarah Beth Martin, one granddaughter Jasmine Martin, mother of his children, Robin Piehl Martin, one brother, Doug Martin, one sister, Molly (Brian) Fourez, and niece Amanda Fourez. He is also survived by other nieces and nephews, and his special friend John Barnes. He was preceded in death by his mother Linda Martin. Mike graduated from Catlin High School, the class of 1984. He was a former member of Catlins FFA. As a former Police Explorer Scout, he was awarded the Police Medal of Honor in 1982, by the Catlin Police department for saving the lives of two Catlin residents from a house fire. Mike was a veteran of the Illinois Air National Guard. Mike was general manager for Carters Lumber Company until his illness forced him to take disability. His friends and co-workers knew him as Harvey. Mike had many interests and hobbies, woodworking to fixing cars. He was a very loving and giving person, who will be missed dearly by his family and friends. During his eight and half years as a quadriplegic, he was loved and looked after by Sara Schull, Ashley Simpson, Laura Engle, Ashley Borst, Terri Davis, Tracy Piehl, and Jennifer Jenkins. A celebration of life for Michael Lynn Martin will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, August 14, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., with Pastor James Cooper officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12:30pm-2:00pm, Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the funeral home.
