Michael Lee Mann

Mike Mann, 71, of Champaign, Illinois, passed away at Carle Foundation Hospital on January 16, 2025. He was a dedicated and compassionate nurse who touched the lives of countless individuals with his care and kindness.

Born January 1, 1954, in Danville, Illinois, he was the beloved son of Edward and Ruth (Draper) Mann. He married Gerry Jo Curry on July 10th, 1976, at Mann’s Chapel in Rossville, Illinois. Mike is survived by his wife, Gerry Jo, of Champaign, Illinois, and his daughter, Johnalene (Jeff) Radek, also of Champaign, Illinois. Mike is also survived by two grandchildren, Ellison Radek and Emalynn Radek, brother-in-law Dale Mackiewicz, brother-in-law Carl Miglin, sister-in-law Carolyn Curry, and many nieces and nephews. Mike treasured many friendships throughout his life, especially Debra Howser, Manuel Agusti, Jose Agusti, the Potomac class of 1972, and Jerry Smith (his long-time golf and Illini game buddy).

Mike was preceded in death by his parents (Ed and Ruth), his sisters (Christal Albert and Christine Mackiewicz), and his brothers (Steve, Scott, and Craig).

Mike graduated from Potomac High School in 1972, earned his Associate's Degree in Nursing from Parkland College in 1990, and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Olivet Nazarene University in 2008. His nearly 30-year career as a nurse at Carle Foundation Hospital was marked by his unwavering commitment to his patients and his ability to bring comfort, healing, and a flashlight to those in need.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mike was known for his warm heart, sense of humor and generous spirit. He enjoyed spending time with Gerry Jo (the love of his life), watching sports (Go Illini!), and playing golf.

Memorial Service will be held on July 10th (Mike and Jo’s 49th Wedding Anniversary) at 1 pm at Mann’s Chapel, Rossville, Illinois. Reverend Leah Robberts-Mosser of Community United Church of Christ will officiate.

Please plan to dress for comfort. The chapel does not have air conditioning and Mike was a casual guy. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the Memorial Service at the Potomac Community Building.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of two memorial funds. Mann’s Chapel - Mike Mann through Vermilion County Museum, 116 N Gilbert St, Danville, Illinois 61832
