Michael Lee Nelson

Michael Nelson, 68, of Danville, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. He was born in Danville on May 29, 1954, the son of Roscoe and Helen Nelson. Michael married Teri Fitzgerald on May 28, 1983, and they spent 33 wonderful years together before her passing in April of 2017.

Michael will be deeply missed by his children, Jason Nelson of Danville and Samantha (Drew) Gumble of Springfield; grandchildren, Sawyer and Sadie Gumble; stepbrother, Keith (Toni) Downing of Rossville and special neighbors, Renee Mroz and Tyke Askins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Nelson and Helen Nelson (Downing); wife, Teri; siblings, Sue Witsman, Bill Nelson, Pam Steinwand and stepsisters, Debbie Hughes and Robin Keele.

Michael was a veteran of the United States Army and worked at the Danville VA for many years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and in his younger years enjoyed fishing and golfing. Michael was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834.

Memorial donations may be made in Michaels name to the American Heart Association.
