Michael Eugene Thomas

Michael Eugene Thomas, 65, of Calvert City, Kentucky, formerly of Ridge Farm, IL passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at his residence due to complications from cancer. He was born on September 24, 1952. He retired from Danville Veteran Affairs after 25 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Dornblaser Post #203 for many years. He enjoyed playing scratch off lottery tickets, playing trivia, being outside, and gardening. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Surviving is one daughter, Jamee (Brad) Kemper of Mattoon; one granddaughter, Tylyn Thomas of Mattoon; one brother, James (MaryAnn) Thomas of Catlin, IL; one sister, Susan McGovern of Ridge Farm, IL; two aunts, Shirley (Punk) Thompson of Georgetown, IL and Margret Thomas of Danville IL; two nephews, Patrick (Brandi) Lewis of Fountain, CO and Jeremy Thomas of Dallas, TX; two nieces, Leslie Thomas of Farmersville, TX and Paige (Dan) Ruenger of Burnsville, MN; several nieces and nephews.; significant other, Penny Wilson Johnson of Calvert City; her children, Robert (Tina) Johnson of Danville, IL, Julie (Craig) Miller of Williamsport, IN, and Vicky (Michelle Koch) Johnson of Calvert City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilber "Peanut" Thomas and Bernadine Thomas; one sister, Gloria Cutter; one uncle, Roy Thomas and one nephew, Matthew Lewis. A Memorial Service will be at 3:00pm on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home 200 East West St. Georgetown, IL. Visitation will be held 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Saturday prior to his service at the funeral home. Per his wishes he was cremated, and burial will be held at a later time at Danville National Cemetery.
