Michael David Witherspoon, 53, of Danville passed away at 11:38 a.m. Friday January 6, 2012 at his home. He was born on December 24, 1958 in Danville, IL the son of Roy Kennith and Audrey (Miller) Witherspoon. He married Debra Poeschl on February 18, 1983 in Danville, IL. She survives. Other survivors include his mother, Audrey Witherspoon of Georgetown; his son Michael P. Witherspoon of Danville, and his daughter Shelby K. Poeschl; three brothers Kennith (Kathleen) Witherspoon of Ridge Farm, Donald (Lisa) Witherspoon of Hartselle, AL, and Ronald Witherspoon of Georgetown; his sisters, Audrey Allison of Georgetown, Jacquita (James) Craft of Georgetown, Cindy (Gary) Allison of Georgetown, and Virginia Mayo of Georgetown; brother in law Tom Collins of Georgetown; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; his dog, Brody, and all his beloved family pets. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Gloria Fay Collins. Michael graduated from Southern Illinois University and also had attended the University of Illinois. He owned and operated Michael David Witherspoon C.P.A. His business was repeatedly honored by the Commercial News Readers Choice. He served businesses, individuals, local governments, and non-profit organizations throughout the area. He was a member of the A.I.C.P.A. Michael enjoyed sports, especially basketball and football. He was an avid L.A. Raiders fan. He enjoyed watching Star Wars. He enjoyed golfing, walking his dogs, and playing strategy games. He loved building things and was an excellent mason. Michael was very devoted to his mother and his children. He loved spending time with his family. Michael was a man of patience, integrity, and generosity. He wasn't happy unless he was helping people. He will be dearly missed. A celebration of Michael's life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday January 10, 2012 at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, A Life Celebration Home. Kent Leasure will officiate. He will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday January 9, 2012 at the funeral home. In lieu flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's favorite animal charity.
