Danville Michael C. Pickett, 69, of Danville passed away at 10:50 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on September 28, 1953 in Danville to Charles Pickett of Danville and Mary (Stewart) Jones. He was previously married to Trudy Pickett with whom he had two children. Michael and Trudy remained good friends until his passing.

Surviving are his two children, Angela (Mark) Van Slyke of Zionsville, IN and Nathan Pickett of Danville; three grandchildren, Ava and Mae Van Slyke, and Natali Pickett; two siblings, Rebecca (Bill) Chapman of Jonesborough, TN and Barbara (Skip) Kruse of West Palm Beach, FL; nephews Will (Crystal) Chapman and Robb (Andrea) Chapman and close friends Gary (Anna) Barker and Walter Dewitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Cathy and Susan Pickett.

Michael attended Bismarck High School and Danville Area Community College. He was a cabinet maker for his own business, Custom Kitchen Shop, after taking it over from his father. Michael aka Smokey Bear was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed watching the wildlife in his yard, mushroom hunting, golfing, camping and hiking. He would often be found outside riding his bicycle, cutting firewood, or working in his yard. He also looked forward to his yearly trips to visit his daughter in Montana.

A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Michael Pickett will be held from 11AM-2PM on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Mallard Point Pavilion in Kennekuk County Park, 22296 Henning Rd, Danville, IL 61834. Cremation rites have been accorded by Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834.
