Michael S. Barnes

Michael “Mike” S. Barnes, 55, of Danville, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of August 3, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, surrounded by his siblings who will miss him dearly. He was born on October 30, 1970, in Danville, Illinois, to Joe Barnes and Linda Barnes (Stanton). He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Barnes.

Mike is survived by his mother, Linda Stanton; his brother, Jerry (Agatha) Barnes; his sister, Jodi (Rob) Gentry; and his three nieces, Brittani Montgomery, Ashley Hennessey, and Elizabeth Barnes, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Mike was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend whose generosity, quick wit, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone he met. A talented DJ with a deep love of music, Mike had a gift for bringing people together and creating memories that lasted long after the music stopped.

From the moment he was born, Mike faced extraordinary challenges, enduring more than 50 major surgeries over 100 minor medical procedures throughout his life. Yet he refused to let those obstacles define him. Many people who met him saw only his infectious smile, sharp sense of humor, and genuine kindness.

Mike found joy in making others laugh, spending time with his family and friends, and sharing his love of music. His strength, compassion, and unwavering spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 am on Tuesday, August 11 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Danville, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 11:00 am, also at the funeral home. Miles Clark will be officiating.
