Bismarck Michael Alan Payne, 72, of Bismarck, passed away at 2:12 AM on Sunday, November 19,2023 at Accolade Healthcare of Danville with his daughter by his side. He was born February 2,1951 in Danville to Frank and Lloyce (West) Payne. He married Phyllis Ragona on September 1,1973 in Long Beach, CA. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2014.
Surviving is a daughter, Heather (Robert) McMasters of Danville; four grandchildren, Madison McMasters, Taylor (Dakota) Loden, Joanna (Tyler) Anderson, and William Lee Hickey III; two great-grandchildren, Nova Loden and Maggie Hickey; a brother, Mark Payne and a sister, Becki Olson.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Scott Payne.
Michael worked as a truck driver and served his country in the United States Navy. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing (including ice fishing), and animals. He also loved the vacations he and his family would spend in Montana. However, his passion was his huskies which comprised his dog sled team. Michael could often be seen running the dogs up and down the street and on the frozen ponds at Kickapoo State Park during their training.
Per his wishes, there will be no services for Michael at this time. Cremation has been entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Burial will take place at a later date at Stearns Cemetery in Fithian.
