Merton C. Fate, 87, of Oliver Springs, Tennessee, formerly of Danville, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Life Care Center in Wartburg, Tennessee. Mr. Fate was born on June 20, 1920 in Lone Tree, Nebraska, the son of Charles H. and Della (Hoyt) Fate. He married Evelyn Jane Allen Fate. She preceded him in death. He lived most of his life in Danville. He moved to Oliver Springs in 2002 to make his home with his daughter, Charlotte Mitchell. He was a member of the Second Church of Christ and a former deacon of the Hooton Church of Christ. He is survived by his daughter- Charlotte Mitchell of Oliver Springs, Tennessee; two sons- Charles Fate of Allen, Texas and Eric Fate of Indianapolis, Indiana; five grandchildren- Bobby Mitchell of Oliver Spring, TN, Karen Sellers of Clinton, TN, Troy Mitchell of Oliver Springs, TN, Charles Mitchell of Oliver Springs, TN and Stephen Fate of Allen, Texas; four great-grandchildren- Hannah Sellers, Elijah Sellers, Elizabeth Sellers and Harmonie Mitchell; two sisters- Nava Faber of Minburn, Iowa and Phyllis Gavin of Clay Center, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters- Cleo Flessner and Clevia Barton and one brother- Arthur Fate. A Celebration of the Life of Merton C. Fate will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Pastor Drew Mentzer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 " 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Park following the service.
