Merrill L. Randles

Merrill L. Randles, 82, of Covington, Indiana, passed away at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 7, 2024. The daughter of the late Lowell and Maxine (Smith) Holycross, she was born on December 8, 1941. She married Larry Randles on July 9, 1960. After 38 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on August 27, 1998.

Merrill was a resident of Covington for most of her life, graduating from Covington High School where she later worked for 30 years as a secretary in the Guidance Office, retiring in 1998. She cherished her time there and always fondly remembered the many friendships made with students and teachers throughout the years.

She was a lifelong member of the First Assembly of God church in Covington.

Merrill is survived by her children, sons Kurt (Sara), Jon (Christy), Eric (Pam), and daughter Tricia (Dustin) Cox; grandchildren, Abby, Amanda, Drew, Carli, Izaak, Izayah, Izabella, Braden, Griffin, Gage, and Christian; and 13 great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her brother, Jake (Gladys) Holycross, sisters, Linda (Roger) Herzog, Lea (Marvin) Johnson, Julie (Scott) Powell, and Tina (Tim) Biesecker; and multitudes of nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by one infant granddaughter, Katie Randles.

Merrill will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life will take place at 11 am EST on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at the Covington First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Robert Fairchild officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm EST on Monday, March 11, 2024 at the church. She will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington.

Memorial contributions may be made in Merrills memory to the Covington Community Foundation for the Rick Randles Art & Music Appreciation Fund.
