Merle Long

Merle G. Long, 87, of Danville, passed away at 7:15am, Friday, May 18, 2018, at his home. He was born on August 18, 1930, in Danville, IL, the son of William & Blanche (Stigman) Long, both proceeded him in death. He was united in marriage for 66 years to Jean Gerard. She survives. He will be dearly missed by his children, Donna (Bob) Miller-Cuthrell of Williamsport, IN, Connie (Terry) Bowman of Lizton, IN, Denny (Lisa) Long of Danville, IL, Shelly (Shorty) Sibbing of Danville, IN, Kenny (Cinnamon) Long of Danville, IL; grandchildren, Cody Roark, Casey Miller, Megan Pease, Ryan Bowman, Logan Bowman, Dustin Long, Brandi Long-Tuttle, & Amber Jackson; 14 great grandchildren. Merle was proceeded in death by Brothers, Don & William Long; sisters, Evelyn step sister, Geraldine Neff; Step Brother, Harlan Long; Nephew, Richard Long; grandsons, Tyler Sibbing & Aaron Miller. Merle started working with his brother Don Long in the plumbing business from 1961 to 1963. He then started his own plumbing business in 1963, called Long Plumbing. He Retired in 1993, his sons continue to run the business today. Merle has been a member of the Moose Lodge, Ansar Shrine, The Gao Grotto & Olive Branch Masonic Lodge. He had a passion for his family & during his life Merle & Jean restored and sold over a hundred Antique cars. A Celebration of Merle's life will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermillion, Danville. A Visitation will be held at 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Sunset's Swan Court Chapel Mausoleum.
