Danville Merle H. Turner, 86, of Danville, IL passed away at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN at 7:00 pm on December 29, 2018.
Merle was born on October 23, 1932 the son of Floyd J. and Nellie O. (Jarvis) Turner in Collison, IL. He married Kay F. Habberfield on May 13, 1959, she preceded him in death on November 7, 2005.
Survivors include four sons, Arlin Hughes of Simpsonville, SC, Eric (Katrina) Turner of Fithian, IL, Niel Turner of Danville, IL and Kent (Daphne) Turner of Danville, IL; four daughters, Connie (Jim) Davis of Victor, IA, Melanie (Mark) Murphy of Armstrong, IL, Carrie (Jeff) Althaus of Indianola, IL and Myndie (Joshua Nichols) Turner of Minneapolis, MN; two brothers, Keith (Myra) Turner of Charlotte, NC and Ronnie (Patty) Turner of Danville, IL; as well as seventeen grandchildren; Tony (Tiffany Murphy), Christian, Michael, Brandon, and Kaylyn Davis; Alex (Courtney) Burton and Amy (Joel) Franzen; Samantha (Josh) Johnson, Eric and Cody Turner; Emily (Jake Jansky) and Abigail (Kyle Smith) Turner; Kayden, Logen and Zoe Turner; Jakob and Brody Althaus. Along with twelve great-grandchildren, Henry Murphy; Dalton & Kennedi Brumfield, Brianna, Cheyenne, Morgan, and Brylee Burton, and Audrey, Evelyn and Isabel Franzen; Natalie Crawley; and Kaiden Smith.
Merle is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kay, his brother, William Turner and sister, Shirley Gaines.
Merle was a member of the Hebron United Methodist Church in Newtown. He served in the United States Army. Merle was a voracious reader and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed farming, golfing with his friend Smitty, and spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 N. Vermilion Street Danville, IL. Pastor Legg will officiate. Burial will be in Hebron Newtown Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association. In the spirit of Merles love of the Cardinals, the family invites you to wear red to both the visitation and the funeral.
