St. Joseph, MO – Melvina A. Edwards, 96, of St. Joseph, MO, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away at 3:25 PM on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Carriage Square Rehab and Healthcare. She was born June 26, 1928 in Danville, the daughter of Alvin D. and Eva L. (Lowe) Peelman. Melvina graduated from Westville H.S. in 1947. She married Asa A. Edwards on November 21, 1948. Melvina was preceded in death by her husband and son Asa A. (Bud) Edwards.
She is survived by two sons, Michael A. (Diana) Edwards and David D. Edwards. Melvina is also survived by brother Danny (Julie) Peelman and sister Diane (Peelman) Sollars.
Additionally, Melvina is survived by her loving grandchildren; Barbara (David) Rich, Amy (Travis) Holden, Jennifer Lewis, Curtis Edwards, Erin Edwards and Daniel Edwards. Melvina was great grandmother to Alexander (Brooke) Rich, Zachary (Kelsey) Rich, Emily (Jacob) Atchison, Joselyn Lewis , Amber Lewis and Cole Edwards. Melvina was blessed with great-great children Caylee Rich and Charlie Rich.
In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Alvin Peelman, Lawrence Peelman, Gerald Peelman, Roland Peelman, Charles Peelman, Paul Peelman and sisters; Rosalind (Peelman) Quartier, Lucille (Peelman) Sexton and Sandra (Peelman) Jacobs.
Melvina was blessed to have many other beloved members in Peelman and Edwards families. Melvina treasured sending birthday cards and anniversary cards annually to family members.
Melvina retired from General Electric in Danville. She enjoyed family times and liked playing cards. Melvina was an avid volunteer and received many service awards for her contributions. Melvina volunteerism was recognized by receiving the President’s Volunteer Service Award from three Presidents.
A service to celebrate the life of Melvina A. Edwards will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Pastor Matt Filicsky will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 AM prior to the service on March 1, 2025, also at Sunset in Danville.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made in Melvina’s name to American Red Cross Association and Lion’s Club International.
