Danville- L. Melvin "Mel" Clark, 77, of Danville passed away surrounded by his girls at 12:48 AM on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on November 15, 1933 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Clarence and Carrie Champion Clark Evans. He married Gail Munzebrock on February 7, 1964 in Kankakee, IL. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Rhonda (Roger) Mauk of Danville and Michelle (Troy) Rutan of Danville; two brothers, Everett (Norma) Clark of Danville and Art (Dorothy) Evans of Oklahoma City, OK; three sisters, Elizabeth (Richard) Perez of Zion, IL, Hazel (Ray) Marriage of Little Rock, AR, and Donna Metcalf of Las Vegas, NV; his special girls, granddaughters Miranda Mauk and Abigail Rutan; brother and sister in law, Jim and Gwen Snyder of Danville; and special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Terry Clark, four sisters Evelyn Dodge, Irene Weber, Eunice Clark, and Audrey Earle, and four brothers, Leroy Clark, Clarence Evans, Jack Evans, and Charles Evans. Mel was initiated as a Journeyman Electrician with the IBEW Local #538 in September of 1952. He then went on to serve as Local #538's President and later, Business Manager. Mel held great pride in his craft. He was also a member of the Elks and the Boat Club. He loved sports, birdwatching, and remodeled numerous homes. Mel was always willing to help and was always there when you needed him. He loved kids and enjoyed spending his time with his granddaughters. A service to celebrate the life of Melvin "Mel" Clark will be held at 7:30 PM on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Bill Carpenter will officiate. Private burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5-7:30 PM prior to the service on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
