Melvin Howard Whitmer

Champaign - Melvin Howard Whitmer, 88, passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, IL. He was born on January 20, 1928 to Howard and Rebecca (Hedmann) Whitmer in Aitkin, MN. Melvin married Connie Elizabeth Oldham on May 5, 1985 in Gurnee, IL. Melvin is survived by his wife; his two daughters Kathleen (Felix) Cizewski; step-daughter Denise Elizabeth Fulton; step-sons James Meserole, Richard (Barbara) Stamer, and Paul (Marsha) Stamer; grandchildren Shaun, Joshua, Zachary, Dorothy, Anna, Eleanor, Julie, Steven, Brandon, and Christopher; two great-grandchildren; nieces Sarah Matthews and Kimberly Brazil, and Kimberly's son Trevone. He is preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. Melvin loved everything about computers, and he built his first radio at age 11. A celebration of Melvin's life will be held on Saturday November 26, 2016 at 11am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 604 Windsor Rd. Champaign, IL 61820. Burial with military honors will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday November 25, 2016 from 4-7pm at the church.
