Danville - Melody Kay Varner Hull, 61, of Danville passed away at 6:12 PM on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. She was born on November 24, 1952 in Danville, the daughter of Charles “Chuck” Varner and Catherine Loraine Place Varner. She married LaMar Hull on February 25, 1995. He survives. Also surviving are four children, Harmony (Richard) Lappin Calhoun of Rennsselaer, IN, Alex Hull of Danville, Tyler (Katrina) Hull of Carmel, IN, and Paige Hull of Fayetteville, NC; two brothers, Ben (Carolyn) Dodge of Peoria, IL and Joe Varner of Modesto, CA; a sister, Nancy Dodge of Oak Park, IL; and five grandchildren, Isaac, Jayden, Xander, and Alexa Hull of Danville, and Thomas Calhoun of Renssalaer, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents. Melody was a barber, having worked for several years at Bills Barber Shop and for 20 years at Riegle Barber Shop in Danville. She had also worked as the head seamstress at the Costume Shop. She had served as Ambassador of the Red Hat Society, Queen of Splashes of Joy, and Queen of Vice for the Go Go Girls of Danville. Melody was a mother, friend, caregiver, and actress. She will be remembered for her performances at her church and at the Red Mask Theater and as a talented speaker who could make any crowd smile with her devotionals. She got lotsa laughs as her character Lotsa Pearl and had an infectious smile and upbeat attitude wherever she went. Most of all, Melody loved her family and her friends and lived to spend time with her grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life of Melody Kay Varner Hull will be held at 10 AM on Friday, August 29, 2014 at the First Church of the Nazarene at 2212 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Pastor Dave Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Thursday, August 28 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville.
