Maynard Haugen

Maynard L. Haugen, 87, of Danville, IL, passed away at 2:15am EDT, April 1, 2009, at Ben Hur Home, Crawfordsville, IN. He was born on March 14, 1922, in Mapes, ND, the son of Ole J. and Alpha Haugen, both deceased. He was wed to Eleanor Jean Dunham on October 24, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY. She will miss him. Other survivors include: his sons, Richard (Cassie) Haugen of Westville & Thomas (Rhonda) Haugen of Catlin; his daughter, Susan (Doug) Minder of Caledonia, MI; his grandchildren, Jeff (Melissa) Haugen of Southport, NC, Jodie Haugen of Westville, Scott (Bridget) Minder of Phoenix, AZ, Paul (Kelly) Minder of Hudsonville, MI, Curtis Haugen of Ft. Bragg, NC, Corey Haugen Bismarck, IL, & Andrew Haugen of Champaign, IL; his great grandchildren, Lauren Rae Haugen, Cody Maynard Haugen, & Avery Minder; his sister, Shirley (Cecil) Cotterell of Washington; and his sister-in-law, Louise Haugen of Bremerton, WA. He was preceded in death by: his sons, Curt & Scott Haugen; and three brothers, Obert, Hillman, & Milo Maynard was a Veteran of the US Navy and served during WWII. He retired from General Motors after working for 39 years. He was a member of the UAW, member of the Moose Lodge, and was also a past member of the Westville American Legion Post #51, as well as being a current member of the American Legion Post #210. He attended the United Methodist Church in Perrysville, IN. In his spare time, Maynard enjoyed gardening and grew fruits and vegetables. He had coached little league and pony league baseball and really enjoyed playing recreational softball. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00am EDT, Saturday, April 4, 2009, at United Methodist Church in Perrysville, IN. Larry Stoops will officiate. Visitation will be held 5p-7p CDT, Friday, April 3, 2009, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville, IL. As per his wishes, he will be cremated. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
