Maxine Burke

Maxine Burke, 81, of Champaign, was granted her Angel Wings on April 14, 2014. Maxine was born May 13, 1932 in Champaign, Illinois, the daughter of Roy and Mae (Stacey) Hatfield. She was known by many people in the community for her family business, Burkes Upholstery and Furniture Repair. Maxine enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and had a great love for her dogs. She spent many years actively bowling on the WNBA. She spent time in Danville in her earlier years teaching upholstery at DACC and also pursued a career as a licensed cosmetologist. Maxine is survived by her two daughters, Chris (Pat) Green of Tuscola and Jan (Don Bohlen ) Thomas of St. Joseph; her lifetime friend, Carol Poynter of Champaign ; one brother, Pete (Katie)Hatfield of Rantoul; six grandchildren, Kellie (James) Argoudelis, Katie (Ben Todd) Green, Crystal (Chad) Weaver, Chad (Stacey) Patton, Travis Patton, and April Patton, as well as 16 great grandchildren. Maxine was an amazing woman, a loving mother, granny, and friend to all that knew her. At her request, no services will be held. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Champaign County Humane Society. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Champaign-Urbana Chapel, has been entrusted with arrangements.
