Clinton, Ind. - Max Shelato, 93, a resident of Vermillion Convalescent Center for the past 17 years and formerly of Cayuga passed away at 5:15 a.m. EDT Friday, July 31, 2020 at Vermillion Convalescent Center.

He was born July 17, 1927 in Cayuga, Indiana the son of the late Frank and Pearl (Murrmann) Shelato.

Max married Delores Craig in 1949. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include two grandsons: Doug (Amanda) Shelato of St. Bernice, Indiana and Lee (Kasey) Byerley of New Goshen, Indiana; five great grandchildren: Hannah, Emma, Wyatt, Kaylynn and Keilani, and one brother: Robert Shelato of New York.

He was preceded in death by his daughter: Marsha Shelato on July 18, 2005; two sisters and one brother.

Max was a retired electrician. He formerly worked at Anderson Electric Company in Danville, Illinois. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving his country during W.W. II. Max was a 1945 graduate of Cayuga High School and a lifetime member of the Cayuga American Legion Post 263. He enjoyed fishing and netting from the Wabash River.

Graveside services and burial: 10 a.m. EDT Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Walnut Grove Cemetery (Mask Required) in Clinton, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor Ramona Trover. There will be no visitation. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements.
