Max Keller

Max E. Keller, 85, of Covington passed away on February 22, 2019 at Franciscan Health Hospital in Crawfordsville with family by his side. Max was born in Covington the son of Jess and Ida (Winters) Keller on October 22, 1933. On April 2nd, 1988 Max married Margaret (Tingley) in Las Vegas, NV. She survives.

Max will be missed by his children, Martin E. of Seaford, DE, Valerie (Dale) White, and Shozet (Mike) Stump, both of Covington; step children, Thomas J. Land of Covington, Leslie (Jeremy) Hunter of Oakwood, IL; grandchildren, Ashlee (Mike) Cadman, Dane Dunham of Covington, AJ Francis of Louisville KY, Landan Max Crowder and Dylan Hunter, Evie and Austin Land; great-grandchildren, Brynlee Dunham and Elliott Dunham; sister-in-law, Sally Keller; brother-in-law, Gonzo Gonzales of Danville, IL; and many nieces and nephews. Max was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Francis, Jesse, Layton, LeRoy, Charles, Donald, John, Ruth Ann Carwille and Janet Gonzales.

Max served the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 during the Korean Conflict, stationed in French Morocco, North Africa. Served on the Covington Police force from 1958 and appointed Chief in 1963, retiring as Chief of Police in 1979. Max was employed as Human Resource Director for Steel Grip, Inc. from 1979 to 1997 for the Danville, Kingman and Covington plants. Max after retiring from Steel Grip Inc., worked for Don and Peggy Clark's Covington Food, Inc. in Human Resource from 1997 to 1998. Max extended his Covington roots as a funeral home greeter for Shelby Funeral Home in Covington for nearly 20 years.

Max served his community in many areas. Coached Covington Little League and Pony League, Girls Softball and Umpired Little League. Played Covington Independent Baseball and Danville Twilight League teams 1957-1971. 50 Year member of Zorah Shrine and Masonic Lodge for 52 years. 1971 Past Master Fountain Lodge # 60. Served on the Covington School board 1978-1982. Covington City Council from 1999 -2019. Member of American Legion Post 350. Max was Covingtons 2006 4th of July Grand Marshal and received the 2011 Covington Living Legacy Award for his service to the Covington Community.

Max was a Covington guy from being at the basketball games to sitting mornings at Benjamins restaurant with his friends. Max loved the town of Covington where he was born and lived his whole life. He liked watching St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers play as well. He was a member of First Church of Christ in Covington. Max will be missed by all who knew him. Gone to soon....

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday March 2, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Covington from 1:00 to 5:00 pm est. A celebration of Maxs life will be held at the Baptist Church on Sunday March 3, 2019 at 4:00 pm est. Memorials may be made in Maxs name to Covington Community Foundation, P.O.
