Max C. Jones

Max C. Jones, 81, of Tilton passed away at 3:20 am Monday, October 8, 2007 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Max was born June 7, 1926 in Allerton, IL son of Jasper C. and Mary Mae (Archer) Jones. He married Ruth M. (Dolbee) Rossnett on September 5, 1964 at the First Church of Christ in Danville. She survives. Max is also survived by a son: Terry A. (Pam) Jones of Tilton and daughter: Sharon K. (Floyd) Meeker of Danville; four grandchildren Brent Jones, Traci Jones, Rob (Kelly) Meeker, and Tammy (David) Harper; four great grandchildren: Ashley, Mitchell, Mikayla, and Rhett Harper; sister Florence McMasters of Danville; sister-in-law Esther (Bob) Larsen of Danville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Kenneth and two sisters: Mildred Zenke & Frances Applegate. Max attended Allerton schools and joined the Navy in 1944 serving on the USS Nicholas DD4499. He was honorably discharged in October of 1945. He worked at Sugar Creek Creamery until 1960 and retired from Bohn Aluminum in 1992, after 27 years of service. Max was a member of First Church of Christ in Danville, serving as an elder and trustee for several years. Max enjoyed fishing, particularly his trips to Minnesota; working in his yard and feeding the birds, squirrels, & rabbits. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren & great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, more than ever during the holidays when he loved decorating and wrapping gifts with his special touch. A Celebration of Maxs Life will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Don Thorton officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Catlin.
