Mavis Cathi Throckmorton

Mavis Cathi Throckmorton, 89, of Veedersburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on March 23, 2026.

Born April 14, 1936, in Monterey, Tennessee, to M.C. and Dorothy Norrod, Cathi was married on August 21, 1956, to the love of her life, (Ferman) Richard Throckmorton. Together they shared 69 wonderful years of marriage.

Cathi is survived by her husband, Richard, and her children; Richard (Rick) Kevin Throckmorton (Dawn Reese) of Martinsville, IN; Robert (Rob) Stanley Throckmorton (Debbie McClure) of Veedersburg; Ronald (Jo) Joseph Throckmorton (Jillian Kinzie) of Bloomington, IN; and Rebecca Ruth Laurie (John Laurie) of Veedersburg.

She is also survived by her grandchildren of Rick and Dawn: Mallorey Lundy (Adam Lundy) of Martinsville; Miranda Beaver (Andrew Beaver) of Martinsville; and Kaleb Throckmorton (Becky Davault) of Bloomington. The grandchildren of Rob and Debbie: Kelsey Hetrick (John Hetrick), Williamsport, IN; and Luke Throckmorton (Amanda Miller) of Lennox, South Dakota. And, Rebecca and John’s children: John William, Aubrie Lyn, and Ethan Sean.

Cathi was blessed with the gift of many wonderful great-grandchildren in her life and is survived by: Kelsey and John’s children, Jackson and Kate; Miranda and Andrew’s children, Cobin Pirlot, Alaina, and Juliet; and the children of Luke and Amanda: Madilyn, Nevaeh, London, and Elizabeth.

Cathi was preceded in death by sisters Jean Smith and Betty Travis, and brother Bonnie Norrod. She also dearly loved and missed her gift from God—Theodore, the son of Luke and Amanda, born April 29, 2022, and taken from our family much too soon on March 1, 2022.

Cathi was in the class of 1954 at Battle Creek High School in Battle Creek, Michigan, before attending Johnson Bible College (Johnson University) in Knoxville, TN, graduating in 1958.

She lived a life rooted in faith, family, and the joys of creating and growing. Cathi loved canning, reading, sewing, and making homemade jellies and jams. She found incredible joy in gardening, growing beautiful flowers and valued the quiet moments spent reading her Bible. She loved her family with all her heart, was devoted to her church, and passionate about being an active part of the community.

Cathi served the congregations of a number of churches, including Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Martinsville; Liberty Christian Church, Martinsville; Chapel Rock Christian Church, Indianapolis, IN; West Side Church of Christ, Des Moines, IA; Sterling Christian Church, Veedersburg; New Liberty Christian Church, Veedersburg; and regularly attended the First Christian Church (18th Ave.), Bradenton, FL; and West Liberty Church of Christ, Covington, IN.

It was during her service to the West Side Church of Christ that Cathi produced and directed an annual Passion Play on the life of Christ – bringing the message of her faith to generations of families through her creativity and vision. She led the Bible Bowl teams at Liberty Christian Church, West Side Church of Christ, and Sterling Christian Church.

Professionally, Cathi spent 20 years as a banker at Veedersburg State Bank (CentreBank). Her lifelong love of plants and nature led her to become a Certified Master Gardener, and she was a proud member of the Wabash Valley Garden Club, where she happily shared her knowledge, talents, and passion with others. Her hands were always busy, her heart always full, and her legacy will continue to bloom in everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.
