Matthew Lawhorn

Matthew J. Lawhorn, 42, of Covington, Indiana, passed away on Saturday August 15, 2026. Matt was born on November 13, 1983, in Urbana, Illinois, the son of James and Diana (Culp) Lawhorn.

Matt leaves behind his mother; Diana (Mike Venter) Scrogham, his father; James (Kathy) Lawhorn, special stepdad; Allen Smith, his children; Taylor (Bryce Wolf) Lawhorn, Trey (Hannah Hunter) Lawhorn, Hanna Lawhorn, and Hattie Lawhorn, grandchildren; Aubrey Wolf, Quinton Wolf, and Claire Wolf, his siblings; Brandon Lawhorn, Brittany (Tim Hester) Zeigler, Ryan (Brittany) Smith, several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.

Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, stepdad Larry Scrogham and many special friends who he would be happy to be reunited with.

Matt was a 3rd degree Master Mason, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, “golfing” and hanging out with his friends. He also liked to go on RZR rides around the countryside. Most of all Matt loved the time he spent with friends and family.

A Celebration of Matt’s life will be held at 11am on Friday August 28, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Covington Chapel 420 3rd Street Covington, Indiana, 47932. Burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday August 27, 2026, 4-8 with Masonic rights at 8pm.
