Mary Yowell, 89, of Catlin passed away on March 21, 2011 at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. Mary was born April 1, 1921 in Danville, Illinois daughter of Wayne and Lucy Powell Pickett. She married Edward Yowell on February 16, 1940. He preceded her in death on November 2, 1995. Survivors include three children: Sharon Hofmann, Jim (Jackie) Yowell, and Sandy (Stephen) Janosik; two brothers: Bob (Betty) Pickett and Chuck Pickett; sister LaVawn (Chuck) Hoffman; grandchildren: Steven (Scott Allen) Hofmann, Stacey (Dana) Currier, Jennifer (Billy) Cooper, Mike Yowell, Amy (Tash) Trees, Beth Miller, Paul David Janosik, Trista Yowell, Joe Yowell, and Jamie (Josh) Baird; great grandchildren: Justin, Lauren, Jake, Riley, Savanna, Grady, Griffin, Weston, and Waylynd; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Ronald and Terry, and nine siblings. Mary attended Danville schools and had worked for Northridge Middle School in the kitchen for a couple of years, but, was mostly a loving and dedicated homemaker and mother. She was a member of the GAO Grotto Cauldron and Vermilion County Home Extension. Mary enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader. A Celebration of Marys Life will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 28, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Pastor James Blue officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Sunday evening at the funeral home.
