Mary Kayann Wagner, 87, of Danville, IL passed away on July 17, 2026.

Kayann was born on February 18, 1939 the daughter of George and Josephine (Nolan) Garretson in Danville, IL. She married Shug Wagner October 27, 1962.

Kayann is survived by her husband, Shug Wagner of Danville, IL, her daughters, Shelly Pape of Jacksonville, FL, Stephanie (Dean) Grimm of Palm Harbor, FL, Sheri (Gordon Gay) Reece of Noblesville, IN and Stacey (Randy) Bromberek of Frankfort, IL, 11 grandchildren, Rachel (Matt) Murphy, Robyn Pape, Austin Grimm, Abbey Grimm, Amanda (Tommy) Saxon, Faith (Mandi) Haberlin, Hunter Reece, Savannah Ropke, Parker Ropke, Katie Bromberek and Simon Bromberek, and three great grandchildren, Ryan Murphy, Ryleigh Harrison, Baker Saxon and one on the way.

Kayann is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, George “GH” Garretson and Raymond Garretson.

Kayann graduated from Danville High School in 1957 and went on to graduate from Lakeview College of Nursing in 1961. Her education prepared her for a career caring for others.

She had a good heart, and her family was everything to her. She was deeply involved in her children’s lives, spending many years active in the PTA and showing up to support them. There was nothing she would not do for her family.

People admired Kayann for her endless energy, creativity and artistic talents. She especially loved decorating for Christmas and Halloween for all to enjoy.

She and her family attended Ridgeview Baptist Church and later First Church of the Nazarene, where they shared in worship, community, and fellowship.

Kayann enjoyed crosswords, games, and jigsaw puzzles. She loved creating memories with her family through vacations, birthday celebrations and family traditions that will continue to be cherished for generations.

Her nursing career began in the emergency room. She later became a school nurse at Danville High School where she was loved by the student body and faculty. She spent the majority of her career with the Vermilion County Health Department, where her commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on the community she served.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion Street, Danville, Illinois 61834. Dave Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Sunday July 26, 2026 from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the funeral home in Danville, IL.
