Mary Shank, 94, of Danville passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at North Logan Health Care where she had been a patient for five years. Mary was born August 28, 1916 in Danville, the daughter of Paul A. and Maude (Curtis) Pundt. She married Howard E. Shank on August 3, 1935, in Danville. He preceded her in death January 31, 1974. She is survived by two daughter, Ramona (Jim) Ribbe and Mary Cole; two sons Samuel (Janet) Shank and John (Helen) Shank; granddaughter Marcia (Bill) Hodges; six grandsons Michael (Beth) Schroeder, Robert (Cathy) Cole, John C. (Alisa) Shank, Timothy (Jacki) Cole, David (Dana) Shank, and Matthew Shank; fourteen great grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a grandson Stephen Schroeder; a granddaughter Deena Lynn Cole; a son-in-law Ronald Cole; six sisters; and four brothers. Mary was a member of Lincoln Methodist Church where she was very active in the Womens Circle. She enjoyed all types of puzzle-solving and playing Scrabble and Yahtzee. When raising her children, she was active in the Mothers Club at Douglas School, the PTA at Fairchild and Northeast Schools, and was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. A loving and caring Grandma to her eight grandchildren, she played a very active role in all their lives. The family would like to thank the staff at North Logan Health Care Center and the staff of Passages Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. A Celebration of Marys Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 2, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Pastor Peggy Emmert officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Gundy Cemetery in Bismarck, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Passages Hospice Dream Foundation, Lincoln Methodist Church, or the organization of the donors choice.
