Mary Ruth Grimes, 89, of Oakwood, passed away at 1:40 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. She was born on April 22, 1918 in Oakwood Township, the daughter of Lawrence A. and Mabel (Brothers) Clapp. She married William T. Grimes on September 4, 1940 in Milton, Kentucky. He preceded her in June 30, 1987. She is survived by her two sons- Walter (Nancy) Grimes and Bob (Nancy) Grimes both of Oakwood; one daughter-Darlene Miller of Danville; one son-in-law- Carl Powell of Oakwood; two sisters-in-law- Vera May Wise of Collison and Betty Hart of Jacksonville, Florida; one cousin- Ruth Jane (Faye) Suter of Kokomo, Indiana; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter- Ruth Goodwin Powell; two sons-in-law- Tom Goodwin and Ted Miller. Mary graduated from Oakwood High School. After high school she attended Utterback Business School. She was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church in Newtown. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid Society at the Church and the Vermilion County Home Extension for several years. She loved to be with her extended family around the holidays. She really enjoyed going out to eat with her family and friends and she always stayed busy either raising her family, working at the farm, or at the church. A Celebration of the Life of Mary Ruth Grimes will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Pastors Dennis Divan and Alan Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 " 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newtown Cemetery. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Hebron United Methodist Church-General Fund.
