Mary Rita Burk

Mary Rita Burk, 90, of Danville, passed away at 11:15pm on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Provena USMC in Danville. She was born on January 19, 1919, in Danville, the daughter of Warren and Cecile (Gilmore) Orr. On October 30, 1947, Rita married Mr. Jerry Burk at the St. Pauls Catholic Church in Danville. He preceded her in death in 1986. Rita is survived by her son, Michael Burk of Springfield, IL, her daughter, Mary (Mike) Heffernan of Danville, her two grandchildren, Katie (Lance) Vanvekoven of Boswell, IN, Ryan Heffernan of Chicago, IL, and her great-granddaughter, Caryss Vanvekoven. Her parents and sister, Bette precedes Rita in death. Rita graduated from Utterback-Brown Business College in Danville. She was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church in Danville were her faith was an important part of her life. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and music, especially playing the piano, at various area nursing homes. Per Ritas wishes, cremation rites will take place and a Celebration of Catholic Mass will take place at 10:00am on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the St. Pauls Catholic Church in Danville with Father Greg Nelson officiating. Inurnment will take place at Danvilles Resurrection Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of Flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the St. Pauls Catholic Church or Schlarman High School. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center is handling arrangements.
