Danville - Mary R. Rodgers, 89, went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2014 at 7:33 p.m. at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Mary was born the daughter of John W. and Maude Grace Gummere on October 16, 1925 in Danville, IL. Mary is survived by her children Marilyn Ruth Huerta of Danville, John Oliver (Ramona) Hamer of Savoy, Nancy Jo (Ora) Wilburn of Danville, Maggie Donovan of Muncie, IN, Jackie Kay (Joseph) Bell of Danville, David Wayne (Darla) Hamer of Danville; daughter-in-law Sandy Hamer of Danville; brother Thomas (Karen) Gummere of Danville; sister-in-law Marge Gummere; 44 grand children; 74 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her parents John and Maude; her children Jacky Hamer, Pam Hamer, Sue Burnett, and Dennis Hamer; siblings Joseph (Sally Jo) Gummere, Virginia Hasslebring, John William Gummere, and Robert Gummere; daughter-in-law Wanda Hamer; and son-in-law David Donovan. Mary attended D.A.C.C. after high school and became a C.N.A. and enjoyed many years working as a private duty nurse. Over the years Mary enjoyed many games of bingo, church services at the Cornerstone Church, family get togethers, taking her children on long drives in the country, and she especially enjoyed many years of outdoor Christmas decorations. Mary had a particular fondness for cowboy movies that starred John Wayne, sewing projects, animals, and last but not least anything chocolate. She will be missed deeply by her family. A celebration of life will be held on January 5, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a life celebration home in Danville. Pastor Kevin Cox will officiate. Burial is to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation for Mary will be held on January 4, 2015 from 2 - 5 p.m. also at Sunset Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you donate to CARA in Tilton in Marys name.
