Mary R. Martin

Tilton Mary R. Martin, 102, of Tilton, passed away at 11:51 AM on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at OSF Sacred Heart in Danville. She was born September 7, 1921 in Wallis, TX to Joseph and Louise (Klecka) Macha. She married her husband of 68 years, James H. Martin, on September 8, 1943 in Wharton, TX. He preceded her in death on September 14, 2011.

She is survived by four children, Carol Craig of Danville, Mary Lou Hinkle of Cissna Park, IL, Jim (Joan) Martin of Scottsdale, AZ, and Jeff (Debbie) Martin of Fullerton, CA; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, sons-in-law Larry Craig and Daniel Hinkle, two brothers and two sisters, and a grandson, Brian Craig.

Mary worked at Snowers Sewing Factory and Traveler Boat Company, both in Danville. She then worked many years at Osco Drug on Vermillion Street until it closed, followed by Super X where she retired in 1986. She had also been a member at St. Marys Catholic Church in Westville since 1956. Mary was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed playing euchre and raising flowers. Most of all, Mary loved to spend time with her family, often taking trips together and traveling to destinations around the country.

A service to celebrate the life of Mary Martin will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Father Deusdedit Byomuhangi will officiate. Burial will follow at Gundy Cemetery in Bismarck, IL. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 12 Noon prior to the service, also at Sunset in Danville. Memorials made in Marys name may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
