Mary Martie Martha (Cox) Cherry, 83, of Danville, died at 4:00 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2008, in Mahomet, IL, at her sons residence Monte & Gloria Cherry. She was born July 11, 1924, in Rosedale, IN, the daughter of Milton and Edith (Montgomery) Cox. She married Elza Frank Cherry on September 22, 1951 in Rosedale, IN. Martie graduated nurses training in Paris, IL as a registered nurse in 1951. Formerly of Elmhurst, IL where she was a substitute nurse along with her husband, an accounting teacher, at York High School for 31 years. She devoted her time, energy, and love to her family at all times. She also enjoyed collecting and restoring antique dolls, shopping for her children and grandchildren, reading, traveling, and bird watching. Marties sense of humor, kindness, and devotion were shared with her surviving husband, Frank, of 56 years. They resided together at Liberty Village in Danville, IL. She was greatly loved by her surviving children and their spouses: Pat Zanghi of Elmhurst, IL; Monte Cherry of Mahomet, IL; Eric Cherry of San Antonio, TX; Mark Cherry of Cincinnati, OH; and Tina Cherry of Lake in the Hill, IL. She was very proud and devoted to her grandchildren: David and Erin Zanghi; Monica, Jason, Ana, and Carly Cherry; Alec and Elizabeth Cherry; Jill and Emily Cherry; and Tanya and Justin Shelby. Her great-grandchildren are Alyssa and Lauren Zanghi, Lillian Gryniak, and Ashlyn Cherry. A brother, Robert J. Cox, from Rosedale, IN survives her as well. Martie was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and three brothers. Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements. Visitation for Martie will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Private graveside services will be held at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL.
