Mary M. Knight, 93, of Danville, passed away at 3:10am on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Provena USMC in Danville. She was born on November 14, 1917, in Seymour, IL, the daughter of Harry and Blanche (McCary) Tracy. Both are deceased. She moved to Champaign, IL, at the age of 5, and later graduated from Urbana High School in 1935. She furthered her education, receiving her R.N. Degree, and was employed at the Burnham Hospital in 1939. Mary also worked as a private duty nurse for Powden, in Dana, IN, and retiring from the Dietetics Department at the Danville VA Hospital in 1976. She married Clarence Knight on August 15, 1970, in Danville. He survives along with three sons, Jack (Patti) Comstock of Danville, William (Dianna) Knight of Oregon, and Timothy (Jane) Knight of Washington. Three daughters, Pamela (Rick) Burtis of Champaign, Carolyn (Gary) Page of Tenn, and Janice (John) Leverenz of Danville. Her 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren also survive her. In addition to her parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters preceded Mary in death. Mary was a member of the VFW National Home, and past President of the Danville VFW Auxiliary #728. She was also a member of the Danville GAO Grotto Cladron. She loved going to the river boat Casinos, and was the best at making pies. She will be missed by all that knew her. A Celebration of Mary M. Knights Life will begin at 2:00pm on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 N. vermilion Street in Danville, with burial to take place at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, following the service. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00pm on Tuesday, Feb 15, 2011 until time of service at the funeral home. The family has asked that any donations may be made in Marys name to the Vermilion County Animal Shelter. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
