Danville – Mary Lou Davis, 90, of Danville passed away at 10:10 AM on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Hawthorne Inn of Danville. She was born on March 3, 1935 in Metropolis, IL to Lester E. and Ruth E. (Boren) Barton. She then married her beloved husband of 72 years, Robert D. Davis, Sr. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert D. (Judy) Davis, Jr. of Springfield, IL; a granddaughter, Melinda (Suzette Blanford) Davis of Carterville, IL; and a sister, Lawanda Buchanan, two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Leslie Sue Turner, several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Mary Lou was a graduate of Danville High School and worked as the Chief Deputy Circuit Clerk at the Vermilion County Circuit Clerk’s Office. She remained at that office for 33 years until her retirement. Mary Lou liked to stay active; enjoyed hiking in the spring and fall in the Smoky Mountains, enjoying the wildflowers and the changing of the seasons; visiting the beaches in Florida where she and Bob would take long walks; and she enjoyed playing golf. She also loved watching the birds at their feeders that they placed outside their patio window, and she loved watching the deer and wild turkey in their yard. She would say that they lived in the woods and loved that. Most of all, she loved her family, especially when she was singing with her granddaughter. She had a special connection and love for her granddaughter.
A service to celebrate the life of Mary Lou Davis will be held at 11 AM on Monday, March 24, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Pastor Ryan Harris will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10 - 11 AM prior to the service on Monday, also at Sunset in Danville.
