Mary L Shields

Mary L. Shields, 87, of Georgetown, passed away at 6:35am, Friday, January 17, 2014, at North Logan Health Care, Danville. She was born on November 11, 1926, in Olivet, Illinois, the daughter of Roscoe and Cecil {Slaughter} Davis, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Alva Shields in Georgetown, until his passing in 2002. She will be missed by: her children, James M. Shields of Georgetown, John W. (Anna) Shields of Nixa, MO, & Rhonda K. Rice of Georgetown; her grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) Shields of Bloomington, IL, Jana Shields of Georgia, Ryan Shields of Danville, Karen S. Rice of Georgetown, Michael R. (Deana) Rice of Mattoon, IL, John W. (Melinda) Rice of Clever, MO, Matt (Sarah) Shields of Nixa, MO, & Adam (Amy) Shields of Clever, MO; her ten great grandchildren with one due in April; her special nephew, Russell W. Davis of Georgetown: and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers & two sisters. Mary graduated from Ridge Farm High School and worked as a seamstress with Woolen-Wear. She also served as secretary and treasurer for the Merry Riders & Western Riders Saddle Clubs. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Georgetown. Mary loved reading & sewing and was known by many as an excellent noodle-maker making the best chicken & noodles. Most of all, Mary enjoyed having family gatherings. A celebration of Marys life will be held at 12:00pm, Monday, January 20, 2014, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown, with Ed Ross & Phil Miller officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to her service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Pilot Grove Cemetery, Ridge Farm. Memorial donations may be given in her name to First Church of Christ.
