Mary Joann Charles, 75, of Danville, passed away at 8:16 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at her home. Joann was born on November 16, 1934 in Independence, Indiana, the daughter of Glen and Maude (Eubank) Bowman. She married Robert Charles on December 16, 1954 in Westville. He preceded her in death on August 29, 1997. She is survived by her daughter- Vicki (Glenn) White II of Danville; one brother- Luther (Louise) Bowman of Attica, Indiana; one sister- Hazel (Everett) Morgan of Attica, Indiana; four grandchildren- Scott Charles Jr. of Danville, Joshua Halls of Bloomington, Luke Halls of Murphysboro and Joann Chrzan of Fort Dodge, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren- Jonathan Charles, Samantha Charles, J.W. Troxel-Gilbert, Cheyenne Charles, Matthew Chrzan, Brett Chrzan and Hunter Chrzan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Scott Charles in 1982, daughter- Sheri Charles in 1984 and three sisters. Joann graduated from Pine Village High School in Indiana. She worked at Conners Restaurant where she earned the nickname Jody. She was a past member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed craft, gardening and making things grow. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Celebration of the Life will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Pastor Daniel Fienen officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park following the service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the YFRC Womans Shelter.
