Danville – Mary Katherine Howie, 86, of Danville passed away at 7:17 AM on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Hawthorne Inn of Danville. She was born on April 29, 1939, in Danville to Robert and Irene (Ervin) Reddy. She married Samuel A. Howie on April 9, 1966. He preceded her in death.
Mary is survived by five children, Tamie (James) Kincade of Danville, Kay (Gary) McCree of Lincoln, IL, Ray Howie of Danville, Kim (Dale) Pinegar of Oakwood, and Nathan (Michelle) Howie of Danville; nine grandchildren, Chad (Tonya) Cook, Robert Cook, Nicholas (Mary) McCree, Patrick (Brande) McCree, Amy (Brandon) Tuggle, Lukas Pinegar, Cade (Elena) Howie, Kara Howie, and Sam (Madisyn) Howie; 19 great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Cheryl Brown, a son, Erik Howie, and a grandson, Kenneth McCree.
Mary spent her working career as a preschool teacher. In her free time, Mary loved to go shopping. She wasn’t always on the lookout for anything special but could certainly find something she liked. Later Mary became active in the social activities that were available at Liberty Village and enjoyed the friendships she made along the way.
A service to celebrate the life of Mary Katherine Howie will be held at 10 AM on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Thursday, March 12, also at Sunset in Danville. Memorials made in Mary’s name may be made to Liberty Village for activities.
