Mary Hinkle

 Mary Ellen Hinkle, of Cayuga, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026 at OSF Medical Center in Peoria. She was born on November 9, 1938 to the late James and Martha {Adams} Priest. An alumnus of Eugene High School, Mary particularly enjoyed playing basketball during her youth.

Mary devoted an impressive 45 years of her life to her career at CCL, where she not only demonstrated unwavering commitment and work ethic but also served as a proud member of the union. She married William Hinkle, and though the two would later divorce, they remained close friends throughout the years. A true embodiment of generosity, Mary had a good heart and was known for her willingness to help others. She would readily give the shirt off her back to anyone in need.

Mary found joy in the simple pleasures: mushroom hunting, gardening, walking, and canning were among her favorite pastimes. Most notably, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her children, Billy Hinkle and Peggy Sue Nose, as well as 17 of her siblings. Mary is survived by her daughter, Lori Hinkle, many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Mary will be laid to rest at Thomas Cemetery in Newport. Donations may be made to Sunset Funeral Home or online to the family's GoFundMe page (https://gofund.me/e7dfc13f7) to aid Mary’s family with funeral expenses.
