Indianapolis, Ind. - Mary H. (Castle) Walthall, 98, a longtime resident of Robin Run in Indianapolis and formerly of Quaker, Indiana passed away at 9:15 a.m. EST Saturday, December 31, 2016 at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital in Carmel, Indiana. She was born September 21, 1918 in Ridge Farm, Illinois the daughter of the late George and Ruth (Fletcher) Castle. She married William "Bill" Walthall on April 29, 1939 at the Ridge Farm Friends Meeting in Ridge Farm, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1995. Survivors include her children, Jane (Larry) Beane of Huntington, Massachusetts; John (Dianne) Walthall of Carmel, Indiana and Shirley (John) Fanucchi of Arvada, Colorado; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren, and one sister, Gwen (Keith) Heaton of Roseville, Illinois. Mary was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Kay Ruth; three sisters and two brothers. Mary worked as a secretary for many companies at the former Newport Army Ammunition Plant. She was a member of the Hopewell Friends Meeting in Quaker, Indiana where she played the piano and organ for forty plus years. She was also a Sunday School teacher and a member of the U.S.F.W. (Quaker Women's). Mary was a 1936 graduate of Ridge Farm High School. She was very active in the Home Economics Club in Vermillion County and later in Marion County, where she served as President (Former). Mary enjoyed reading (Especially the Bible). collecting napkins; keeping current on news and her favorite sports teams, and being a good hostess, providing snacks and making sure her company was comfortable at her home. Mary and many of her family members would travel together and were fondly called the "Joy Gang". Funeral services: 11 a.m. EST Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Hopewell Friends Meeting in Quaker, Indiana (Rural Dana); Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. EST Friday, January 6, 2017 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana and 1 hour prior to services on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the church; Burial: Hopewell Cemetery in Quaker, Indiana.
