Mary Ellen Jones

Mary Ellen (Keith) Jones, 96, passed on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at Carle Hospital Urbana. Cremation rites have been accorded. She was born Sept. 8, 1922 at the family farm near Winona, MN. Mary Ellen and Douglas Milton Avery Jones were married in Winona on June 22, 1947. Doug passed in 1995. Mary Ellen's parents were Horace Keith and Leonore Ellen (born Bigelow) Keith, both deceased. She had 2 brothers, Charles Harvey Keith (deceased) and Vernon Carl Keith of Rockford. Mary Ellen & Doug had 3 children: Douglas Charles "Chuck" Avery Jones (deceased) (wife Carolyn); Rebecca "Becky" Sue (husband Michael) Grace of Rockton; and William "Bill" Stephen Thomas (wife Sandra) Jones of Mahomet. She is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary Ellen was a member of First United Methodist Church in Champaign. She was an avid quilter, made clothes for her children & grandchildren, made crafts and enjoyed her flower garden. In addition to caring for her family and home, she worked as a bookkeeper for McKinley YMCA and a seamstress for the Bridal Shoppe. A memorial service followed by fellowship will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018 at 2 PM at The Glenwood in Mahomet, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
