Mary Ellen Harmon

Danville - Mary Ellen Morrissey Harmon, 91, of Danville died on March 9, 2018 at OSF Hospital in Danville, IL. Mary Ellen was born in Penfield, IL on September 12, 1926 the daughter of Margaret Gordon and John J. Morrissey. She married William (Bill) Harmon on April 27, 1946 at St Paul's Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2011. Together Mary Ellen and Bill raised seven children; Jack, who is deceased, W. Patrick (Patti) of Brandon, MS, Michael (Rita) of Carbon, IN, Tom (Mom's Favorite) of Ocean Springs, MS, Peggy (Glenn) Johnson, Suzie (Dale) Salonen of Danville, and Anne Harmon, who is deceased. She is also survived by her sister Mrs. Agnes Leemon as well as a special family member, Nancy Harmon and leaves behind her legacy of 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, with two more on the way. Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Bill; grandson, John David Harmon; her sisters, Margaret Aston and Ruth Ann Morrissey and her brother John Earl Morrisey. Mary Ellen was a member of St Paul's Catholic Church, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society, Life Member of Danville Symphony Orchestra, Danville Boat Club, Republican Women Association and Danville Elks Lodge 332. She graduated from Danville High School in 1945 and was a member of the Thespian Society. Mary Ellen loved and cherished her family deeply and the family would like to extend a special Thank You to the Drs. and Staff at OSF for taking such loving care of our mother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at St Paul's Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut Street Danville, IL. Visitation will be held at from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 N. Vermilion Street Danville, IL. A Rosary Service will be held at 3:45 PM prior to Visitation at the funeral home. A Family Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery on Monday March 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Memorials may be made in Mary Ellen's memory to St Paul's Catholic Church or Schlarman Academy.
