Mary Elizabeth Fortner

Ravenswood, W. Va. -- Mary Elizabeth Fortner, 91, of Ravenswood, W. Va. and formerly of Newport, died Aug. 9, 2010, at Eldercare of Ripley, W. Va. Born Jan. 4, 1919, in Clinton, she was the daughter of the late Ray Russell and Georgia Russell. She was a homemaker. She was a Methodist by faith and a member of Order of Eastern Star in Clinton. Her husband, Wayne Fortner, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Arnold Fortner; and her sister, Francis Ball. Survivors include two sons, Donald Fortner and his wife, Julianne, of Tiffin, Ohio and Ronald Fortner and his wife, Sandy, of Ravenswood, W. Va.; one sister, Joan Howard of Crawfordsville; five grandchildren, Tim Fortner and his wife, Angie, of Ravenswood, W. Va. , Tamara Engevold of Portland, Ore., Scott Fortner and his wife, Susan, of Breckenridge, Colo., Donald Fortner and his wife, Julie, of Cincinnati and David Fortner and his wife, Rebecca, of Fort Myers, Fla.; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services and burial of cremains will be held at 4 p.m. EDT Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana. There will be no visitation. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements.
