Mary E. McMullen, 95, of Danville, died at 9:15am on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville. She was born on October 15, 1916, near Perrysville, IN, the daughter of Orville and Estella (Martin) Hughes. Both are deceased. She married Clayton L. McMullen on June 17, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1976. Surviving are three nephews, Kent Hughes, Sam Hughes, Jim Hughes, and one niece, Shirley Taylor. In addition to her parents and husband, one brother; Harold Hughes, one sister; Dorothy Deakins, and one nephew; Chris Hughes preceded Mary in death. She attended Gessie Grade School and graduated from Perrysville High School in 1934. Mary then attended Utterback Business College, and was employed as a bookkeeper for Palmer bank, as well as F.L. Jacobs Company, before retiring in 1948. She was a 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Danville, the Rachel Circle, as well as a life member of the Y.W.C.A., the War Museum, and the Symphony Guild, all in Danville. She enjoyed bowling, golf, and basketball. A Celebration of Mary E. McMullen's Life has been scheduled for 10:00am on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 North Vermilion Street in Danville with burial to take place at Sunset Memorial Park follow the service. Visitation for family and friends will be from 9:00am until time of service on Wednesday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church located at 100 N. Franklin Street in Danville.
