Mary E. Lewis

DANVILLE - Mary E. Lewis, 91, of Danville passed away Wednesday morning, February 4, 2015 at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. Born July 25, 1923 in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of Frank H. and Marie Catherine (Naus) Comeans. She was a 1940 graduate of Central High School in Columbus. On September 20, 1941 she married Rev. David William Lewis in Greenfield, Ohio. He preceded her in death March 9, 2002. Mary was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Danville. Her life revolved around the church, because her husband was a Pastor in many different churches over the years. She was involved in every part of the church, from teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, to playing the piano and organ for Sunday services, she did it all. In her spare time she was a very talented seamstress, sewing clothes for her children, as well as many of the church children. She is survived by three children, Margaret “Peggy” Welch of Danville, Frank (Christine) Lewis of Lanesville, Indiana and Michelle (Larry) Campbell of Galva, Illinois; ten grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. In addition to her husband of nearly 61 years, Rev. David Lewis, she was preceded in death by her parents; two children, David Calvin Lewis and Carolyn Jean Lewis; and two siblings, Quentin Comeans and Grace Yankee. A service to celebrate Marys life will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 13th at the First Church of the Nazarene in Danville with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating. Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Park following services. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church. A memorial has been established for Danville First Church of the Nazarene. Please join Marys family in sharing memories, photos and video of her life on her Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
