Mary E. Coonce

Hillsdale, Ind. - Mary E. Coonce, 90, of Hillsdale and formerly of Rockville, Indiana, passed away at 10:18 a.m. EDT Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. Mary was born October 31, 1923 in Blackhawk, Indiana the daughter of the late George and Mae Sheffield Hargrove. She married Donald J. Coonce, Sr. on January 23, 1943 in Annapolis, Indiana. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1993. Survivors include two sons, Donald J.(Jane)Coonce, Jr. of Cayuga, Indiana and Bill Coonce of Bunkerhill, Indiana; son-in-law, Virgil Griffin of Chrisman, Illinois; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn McCarty of Rockville, Indiana. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jane Griffin; great great grandson, Andrew Griffin; one sister and two brothers. Mary worked for seventeen years for Funk's Seed Corn in Rockville and later for the Saint Bernice sewing factory for ten years. She formerly attended the Hillsdale Bible Church. Mary enjoyed playing bingo and euchre. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:15 p.m. EDT Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Keith Warner; Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. EDT Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the funeral home. Per Mary's request, cremation has been accorded and a private family graveside service will be held later at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana. The family request contributions to the donor's favorite charity.
