Mary Dougherty

Newport, Ind. - Mary Dougherty, 73, of Newport, passed away at 6:46 a.m. EST Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Signature Health Care in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was born October 28, 1943 in Vermillion County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Charles David and Mabel L. (Southard) Norman. Mary married Ted E. Dougherty on November 4, 1962 in Danville, Illinois. He survives. Other survivors include her grandson, Derrick Dougherty of Chicago, Illinois; one sister, Nancy (William) Wehr of Newport, Indiana; two brothers, Charles D. (Brenda) Norman, Jr. of Indianola, Illinois and Jim A. (Gay) Norman of Newport, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her son, Ted Dougherty. Mary helped her husband run their concession business "Big T Concessions" for many years. She attended the Montezuma Independent Baptist Church. Mary was a 1961 graduate of Newport High School. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her many nieces and nephews. Funeral services: 3 p.m. EST Monday, February 27, 2017 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor Keith McIntyre; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 1 p.m. EST Monday, February 27, 2017 until time of services at the funeral home.
