Mary Carlson Edwards Johnson

Danville- Mary Carlson Edwards Johnson, 96, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday morning August 24, 2016. She was born on November 9, 1919 to Henry and Emma (Persson) Carlson. She married James A. Edwards on May 10, 1941 in Mt Vernon, IL. He died May 2, 1962. She married Robert J. Johnson on September 7, 1968 in Danville, IL. He died May 17, 1992. She is survived by two sons; Larry (Dixie) Edwards of Charlotte, NC and Phillip (Barbara) Edwards of Indianapolis, IN and two step children; Martin (Isabel) Johnson of Ellenton, FL and Patricia (Bradley) Cookson of Centennial, CO, one dear sister-in-law; Lucille Lyman of Tilton, IL, ten grandchildren; Amy (Richard) Clark, Andrew (Julianne) Edwards, Ashly (Ken) Hensel, Jonathan (Tiffany) Edwards, David (Samantha) Edwards, Joel (Chelsea) Edwards, Ellen (Jeremy) Torres, Patrick Johnson, Christopher Johnson and Samantha Cookson, three great grandchildren; Andrew James Clark, Elizabeth Clark and Lily Edwards, nine nephews and seven nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one sister; Anna (Robert) Larson, five brothers; Martin (Viola) Carlson, Walter (Evalyn) Carlson, Paul (Francis) Carlson, August (Ruby) Carlson and Oscar (Mary) Carlson and an infant daughter Lynelle Kay Edwards, as well as four nephews and one niece. Mary was raised on the family dairy farm near Grape Creek, IL and graduated in 1938 from Westville High School. She also attended classes at DACC and Parkland Community College. She worked at Arnholt Bakery, Chicago Motor Club, and Illinois Bell Telephone prior to a career in Banking. She sent many years at Second National, then the Bank of Danville and finally First Midwest Bank. Mary was active in Home Bureau, Franklin School PTA, GAO Caldron and a long standing member of Central Christina Church in Danville, IL. Mary loved to dance, enjoyed quilting, and she especially loved to travel and experienced trips to Canada, Australia, Hawaii, Honduras, and three trips to Sweden, the birth home of her parents. A Tribute to the life of Mary will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday August 29, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Officiating will be Rev. Henry Berg. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday August 28, 2016 at the funeral home.
