Mary Sanders Bromley passed away at 1:41 a.m. on December 10, 2010, at Provena USMC, Danville. She was born on October 8, 1922, in Georgetown, IL, the daughter of James Jim & Ruby {Whitecotton} Sanders, both deceased. She was married to George Bromley on June 23, 1943, in at Camp Carson Chapel, Colorado Springs, CO. He will miss her dearly. She will also be missed by: her daughters, Nancy (Ronald) Lacey of Georgetown & Maryann (Ralph) Moore of Chatham, IL; her wonderful grandchildren, Wayne (Lori) Moore, Melissa (John) Loop, Melinda (Ryan) DuRocher, Kevin (Aime) Lacey, & Jody (Chad) Steinbaugh; and her precious great grandchildren, Cole & Caden Moore, Laura & Julie Loop, Grace, Jacob, Ty & Dylan DuRocher, Jicee Lacey, and Conor, Lacey, Cale, & Cameron Steinbaugh. She is also survived by: her sister, Jane Chandler of Georgetown; her brother, John Jack Sanders of Bryant, AL; her brother-in-law, Curtis (Barbara) Bromley of Murphysboro, TN; and her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bromley of Danville, as well as, many special nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; a sister-in-law, Mary Elaine Roberson; her brothers-in-law, Delbert Bromley, James (Roberta) Bromley, & Jack Chandler. Mary was a 1940 graduate of Georgetown High School and was listed in the Whos Who in Illinois High Schools. She served as secretary of Georgetown High School and was an avid worker to keep the Alumni Association active. One of her greatest joys was children and she seldom missed any of her grandchildrens activities. She was a kindergarten teacher, Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher and worked with various youth groups. She also spent many years as a Brownie, Girl Scout, & 4-H leader. She enjoyed working with the literacy programs, helping adults to read. She served on many school, church & community organizations. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #203 and spent many years as a program chairman for the Georgetown Historical Society. In 1977, she wrote and directed a play entitled, Paths from the Past, for the Georgetown Sesquicentennial Celebration. She did this with the help of many talented community members. She enjoyed the new friends she made while researching and writing a weekly column, Prairie Prints, and other features for the Commercial News. Her first loves were her family, the good Lord, & the beautiful earth He gave us to live on. She enjoyed music, dancing to the Big Bands and gospel, especially the Gaithers. She loved to sing in the church & community choirs. She was an avid reader, did arts & crafts, loved to sew & play games with friends. At present she was attending the Ridge Farm Friends Church and a former member of the Georgetown Friends Church. A celebration of Marys life will be held at 11 am, Monday, December 13, 2010, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Chapel, A Life Celebration Home, Georgetown, with Pastor Jim Walker officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Monday before the service. She will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery. At her request, please no flowers, as your friendship was her flowers throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be given to the Georgetown Historical Society to help in the restoration of the Historical House.
